What are Special Collections?

Items, such as rare books or journals, that are either irreplaceable, rare, and/or valuable. The subjects of the materials are often specialized which make the collection distinguished in a specific area of study. LaBudde Special Collections at UMKC Libraries has a strong focus on Western Americana (emphasis on Missouri and Kansas), music (especially Kansas City Jazz), and cultural studies (notably gender studies).
